What is Scanography?
Essentially, scan-ography is photography; as an alternative to using a camera, I use a scanner, assembling objects on the glass plate of a flatbed scanner, capturing images in a digital file replacing traditional film. The unique process and notable difference with scanning is MAKING a photograph instead of taking one. As in macro photography, scanning also produces high resolution images; predominantly in plants and flowers where they exhibit true to life vibrant color and unique 3-dimensional details.
Scanning has long been open to copying documents and/or photographs and as we're well aware, the image is captured from beneath the subject. Subsequently, designing with objects is particularly tedious and takes great patience to create-in-reverse. Options of leaving the scanners lid off within a dark room environment achieves a sophisticated and stunning black-background, enhancing exquisite light and brilliant color.
Artist styles vary in scanning images; my desire is designing botanical art on behalf of our Creator's exquisite creations and the volumes with-which they speak….including the delicate balance we’re responsible for as stewards maintaining a world in an ever-changing environment.
Harvesting from my own woods and flower gardens I’ve become a digital florist so-to-speak, arranging fresh cut flowers on the glass plate instead of in a vase.
